How to...Web 2.0

This blog is meant to service the beginner as well as the expert in Educational Technology tools that can be used in the classroom. For the beginner  the blog will give you the essentials to begin incorporating the specific tool in your classroom. For the expert, the comments page (I hope!) will help us share and collaborate the various ways we have used that specific tool in the classroom. So with out further ado, lets begin:

With the introduction of Web 2.0, a completely new dimension in regards to technology in education has been brought into play.

Web 2.0 is the name given to the next/current generation of the world wide web which focuses on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. When thinking about the internet, the focus was always about how to search and gather information. With Web 2.0. the focus has shifted; now that I have the information, how can I share it with others; this has lead to the explosion of tools like social media, blogs, wikis etc.

As mentioned in the book "Web 2.0 How-to for educators," the integration of web tools can provide numerous opportunities for teachers and students to learn and cultivate 21st century learning skills.

Some examples are:

Communication

Collaboration

Connections

Community

Contextualization

I plan to blog about more Webtools and how the ideas and skills mentioned above can be easily and efficiently integrated as our course in Educational Technology continues. I welcome any and all questions and comments from my fellow colleagues.
